Translink’s bus and rail staff are once more bracing themselves for nearly 100,000 school children who will be returning to school by public transport next week.
Translink’s Managing Director Ted Hesketh commented, “We understand how traumatic it can be for children starting a new school or simply returning to the same school. Our staff will be doing their utmost to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that everyone gets to and from school safely. It would help speed things up if children have their travel passes, tickets or correct fares available for inspection”.
He added. “We would also appeal to those parents who drive their children to school not to park in spaces designated for buses. Careless parking around schools can compromise the safety of children and prevent school buses gaining the access they require to deliver children safely to school”.
Translink would encourage parents whose children are not eligible for free school transport to obtain a Pupil’s Ticket – a pre-paid annual ticket which is calculated to cover all journeys from home to school from September to June. Details are available from Translink’s Pupil Pass Office on 028 9035 4074 or from their Call Centre on 028 9066 6630. Enquiries can also be made on www.translink.co.uk
The option for children to pay their fare on Citybus, Ulsterbus and Northern Ireland Railways is still available.
