While many pupils will just be settling into the school holidays, the reality for parents may already involve planning ahead for next year.
Along with uniforms and books, transport to and from school is a top organisational priority for parents.
“Convenience, safety and cost are the main factors involved in deciding how to get your child to school,” says Ciaran Rogan of Translink. “For pupils who do not come within the criteria for free school transport, these passes can represent significant savings. They also avoid the necessity of having to carry cash and also offer parents the option of choosing return or one way tickets, either using the bus, train or a combination of both.”
Costs are worked out on the basis of the most appropriate fare for the journey, but are subject to an 8% discount if the annual fare is paid in advance or by direct debit.
“As the popularity of this option grows,” Ciaran concluded, “we recommend that parents and guardians submit their applications as early as possible to ensure that passes are issued in plenty of time for the new term.”
Application forms have been sent to homes across NI, but if you require a form or further information, contact Translink’s Pupil Ticket Office on 028 90354074.
