Engineers Restore Sea Defences Overnight

12th December 2006

NI Railways engineers have worked through the night to successfully restore the sea defences on the Larne Line between Whitehead and Downshire which were damaged yesterday by severe weather conditions.

A team of engineers have been on site since yesterday in order to repair the damage caused by the weather with the effect that all services on the Larne Line this morning are now operating as scheduled.

Frank Moore, Larne Line Manager said,
“NI Railways are often at the mercy of the elements at this time of the year which can cause numerous problems for us and delays for our passengers.  We have contingency plans in place for this type of event, coupled with a dedicated team of highly skilled engineers who have worked in cold, wet and dark conditions throughout last night in order to restore services for passengers travelling on the Larne Line this morning.

“NI Railways have invested heavily in pre-emptive winter preparations this year and this event has tested our capabilities to the very extreme. We would once again like to apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank our passengers for their patience and support while we have been rectifying this difficulty.”
