Public transport speaking your language: Translink

26 October 2007:

On track! NIR Rail Guard Tracie Kyle assists Anna Kicinska, from Rzeszo, Poland, with the help of Translink’s new Polish language information booklet. Lithuanian and Portuguese translations are also included as part of an initiative which is designed to promote a more inclusive service.

Translink has today launched its multi-lingual information booklet – embracing Polish, Lithuanian and Portuguese languages – as part of further efforts designed to deliver a more inclusive and accessible service.

The new ‘Travelling with Translink’ booklet, which contains information and advice on how to use public transport services, along with contact numbers, is available from main bus and rail stations. PDF formats of the booklets can also be downloaded from Translink’s website (at http://translink.co.uk/travellingwithtranslink200708.asp).

Marketing Executive Ciaran Rogan said: “We are committed to providing a fully accessible service for all our customers. We very much want to help and welcome our new European neighbours on board, particularly when their first language may not be English. That’s why we’ve produced this comprehensive information booklet in the languages of the three largest ex-pat communities here in Northern Ireland.

“Growing numbers of Polish, Portuguese and Lithuanian nationals now live and work in Northern Ireland. This guide provides all details of our network, fares and ticketing, policies, the concession schemes, airport links, contact numbers and everything a person needs to know to start using Translink bus and rail services. We already distribute this guide in English and we hope this initiative will prove to be just as popular and useful.”

A copy of the booklet is also available by writing to the Marketing Department at Translink, Central Station, Belfast, BT1 3PB. The booklet is also available in both large print and braille.
