Lisburn’s new state-of-the-art buscentre was officially opened today (8 September 2008) by Regional Development Minister, Conor Murphy MP MLA in a special ceremony that also unveiled Translink’s new Passenger’s Charter.
Opened on time and on budget, the new £2.8 million bus centre was funded by the Department for Regional Development and European Union Structural Funds.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Catherine Mason, Group Chief Executive of NITHC and Translink, said, “This new facility is another highlight in our station improvement programme and we are very grateful to our colleagues in the DRD and EU for the essential funding for this project. The new premises, are well placed just a short walk from the busy city centre and social facilities and offer customers a new level of comfort, convenience and accessibility. We have been delighted with the early feedback from our passengers who like what they see.
”While many more people are choosing to travel with us, modern, high quality facilities play an important role in attracting new people onto passenger transport or to use it more often. With all bus services now operating to and from the new bus centre, all our local passengers and visitors to Lisburn can benefit from these first class facilities.
“It is appropriate that today also marks the launch of our new Passenger’s Charter which clearly sets out our strong customer focus and commitment to providing high quality bus and rail services. We strive to ensure that we meet and, where we can, go beyond our passenger’s expectations and standards as set out in the Charter in order to keep our customers coming back so we can continue to grow.”

Mayor of Lisburn City Council, Cllr Ronnie Crawford, said:
“Today’s official opening marks an exciting milestone in the overall development of City of Lisburn and will provide an important service for the entire community. This new facility will attract more visitors to the area boosting our local economy through increased tourism revenue and improved access to job opportunities. Its prime situation near the City Centre and social amenities makes the facility convenient and accessible.
“I am optimistic that with this new bus centre in operation it will make the decision to move away from the car towards public transport an easier one, resulting in less congestion on our roads and reducing damage to the local environment.”
