26 June 2009:
Translink Group Cheif Executive Catherine Mason with the Translink Annual Review 08/09 launched today 26th June.
Millions more journeys are being made on board Translink bus and train services. Carrying over 81million people last year, this latest success has been put down to the quality of service and strong customer focus in Translink’s latest Annual Review 08/09, launched today (26 June 2009).
With more than eight million additional passenger journeys in the last four years, Translink Group Chief Executive Catherine Mason says that investing in infrastructure, vehicles and employees has contributed to the on going success and continued growth in use.
“We place our customers firmly at the heart of what we do. Customer satisfaction has been high for several years now and the growing number of people choosing to use the bus and train shows we are getting it right for them.
“Over the past year, a number of key projects have progressed on target, including: the order for 20 new Class 4000 trains which are due to start to arrive in 2011; the completion of a modern buscentre in Lisburn, a £17m project to provide better access to rail stations, the purchase of 90 new Ulsterbus vehicles and a £12.5 million track upgrade along the Londonderry railway line.
“Meaningful integration has also continued to be a key focus. A new integrated bus and rail ticket PLUSBUS was launched and a new integrated smartcard is planned for later this year. The website and Contact Centre also proved popular with customers with 4.5 million web visits and 1.3 million calls.
“We value our people and know they can make the difference to the passenger’s journey experience. As such we have invested in training including an innovative customer care programme for bus drivers and opened a new state of the art Training Academy for rail staff with simulation tools to maintain the highest possible safety standards for our passengers, colleagues and the general public.

“Public Transport in Northern Ireland has been a success story and we have shown that investing in bus and rail has clearly paid off as we continue to meet Government targets. In these tough economic times there are financial pressures ahead, however, we will address these in a balanced way in order to continue to offer attractive travel solutions which are sustainable and good value so we can make more people make the right choice to use the bus and train,” concluded Ms Mason.
