Translink launches search for NI’s best kept secrets in association with NITB

Translink has officially launched a search for Northern Ireland’s ‘Hidden Treasures’ in association with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board (NITB) – and is calling on the public to get involved!
NI’s public transport provider wants to venture beyond the obvious to unearth what is truly unique about Northern Ireland and needs help from the NI public to dig a bit deeper – whether it’s a beautiful view, a great dish, or perhaps just a place with a special meaning. Region by region Translink wants to end up with a catalogue of NI’s best kept secrets that people can get to by bus or train.
The campaign was launched today (11th March 2010) at The Craft Workshop –a treasure trove of weird and wonderful crafts, it’s the only place in Belfast where you can sip tea, purchase a top hat and have your hair restyled all in the one sitting!
Speaking at the launch event Translink’s Communications Manager, Lynda Shannon, said:
“The Craft Workshop is the perfect example of the type of ‘Hidden Treasure’ we want people to nominate – it’s quirky, fun and easily accessible by public transport. Northern Ireland is well known for its major tourism attractions like the Mourne Mountains and the Giant’s Causeway but there’s so much more to see and do and we want to encourage the public to get out and visit these places using either bus or train.
“Nominating ‘Hidden Treasures’ in your area will not only help inject some pride into your local community but will put you in with a chance of winning one of six weekend breaks to anywhere in NI courtesy of NITB, along with one of 50 free iLink cards entitling you to a days free travel on Translink Services in NI.”
NITB marketing and events director Susie McCullough added:
“Northern Ireland is renowned for its friendly people and natural beauty – it has so much to offer across all six counties from secluded beaches to lively local pubs. We want to hear your favorites – so share your ‘Hidden Treasures’!”
