Google Translations

1. What is Google Translate™ "automatic translation"?

It's translation produced by state-of-the-art technology, without the intervention of human translators. Automatic translation is also often referred to as machine translation.

2. Why do Translink recommend Google Translate™ "automatic translation"?

We believe that Google Translate™ provides the most accurate translation available online.  We recommend using Google Translate™ to translate this website into the following languages:

France

Germany

Italy

Spain

Portugal

Français (French)

Deutsch (German)

Italiano (Italian)

Español (Spanish)

 Portugais (Portuguese)

3. What languages can currently be translated by Google Translate™ ?

Currently, Google offers the following language pairs:

  • English to/from Arabic
  • English to/from Chinese (Simplified)
  • English to/from Chinese (Traditional)
  • English to/from French
  • English to/from German
  • English to/from Italian
  • English to/from Korean
  • English to/from Japanese
  • English to/from Portuguese
  • English to/from Russian
  • English to/from Spanish

4. When will Google support additional languages for translation?

Google is working to support other languages and will introduce them as soon as the automatic translation meets its standards.

5. The translation quality isn't as good as I'd like it to be. Can it be made more accurate?

Google is always working to improve the quality of its translations.  Even today's most sophisticated software, though, doesn't approach the fluency of a native speaker or possess the skill of a professional translator.  In the interim, we hope the service provided by Google Translate™ is useful for most purposes.
