1. Describe your job.
I am involved in the training and assessing of new and current conductors in all aspects of customer service.
2. How long have you worked for the company?
21 years. I joined the Freight division at Adelaide, driving the crane. From there I went onto the Enterprise service.
3. What did you do before this current job?
Before taking on this current job I was Train Manager on the Enterprise service for 8 years.
4. What qualifications or special qualities do you need for your job?
You need patience, empathy with others, a flexible approach and to be a good motivator and leader.
5. What do you find most challenging about your job?
Helping some staff realize the importance of our customers.
6. Who do you report to?
I report to Andrew Morrissey and Hilton Parr.
7. What aspect of your job do you enjoy most?
I enjoy the training aspect - being able to pass on the valuable experience I have picked up over the years working on the railways.
8. What departments or colleagues within the company do you have contact with through your job?
I have a colleague, Gerry Holly, who shares the role with me. I have a great working relationship with him and would be lost without him. We would both be in regular contact with all the line managers and all the station supervisors throughout the network.
9. What are your main hobbies or interests outside work?
I enjoy all types of sports, especially football. I only watch now, after so many birthdays have passed, though I used to play.
10. Where is your favourite place in the world?
Spain. I’ve always had a good holiday there, with plenty of sun which I enjoy.
11. What is your favourite meal and drink?
Steak and a nice glass of wine.
12. Who would you most like to be stuck in a lift with?
Roy Keane.
13. What TV programme makes you mad?
Any soaps.
14. What’s your most recent CD purchase?
Elvis’ greatest hits.
15. Which celebrity would you most like to have dinner with?
Bill Clinton. He was one of the few politicians that I’ve looked up to and he has a certain charisma.
16. What car would you love to have, money no object?
A Bentley.
17. If you won the lottery, where would you like to live?
Anywhere by the seaside.
18. If you had to change career, what would you like to be?
I would like to take over at Manchester United when Sir Alex Ferguson retires!
